We celebrated our 12th Annual Geode Fest 2016, in Hamilton, IL and it was another great event. Thank You Mike (Grand Master Geode Dude) Shumate for all your hard work putting on Geodefest. This was our largest crowd yet, with over 1,250 participants. Hundreds of 5-gallon bucket of geodes were collected from the Tri-State area. The states of Illinois and Missouri are now a few tons lighter after all the geodes that were collected found new homes across the country. The geodes ranged in size from BB size up to 300+ POUNDS. There were a few over 200 pounds, I have never seen so many geodes this large collected at one time, or at one event. The geode hunters came in from across the country, from Alaska, California to New York City. If you have some digital pictures you'd like to add, please send them to mikepepping@DAHLFORD.US
Categories: Largest Geode, Oddest Shape Geode, Prettiest Geode, Rarest Geode, Smallest Geode, Ugliest Geode, "This Mud's for You", and a Kids 12 and under division with the same categories.

Chaney Creek Boat Access

The $20.00 registration fee (single person) or $30.00 family fee entitles you to 2 – hunts per day on Friday and Saturday, and 1 – hunt on Sunday morning. Some of these guided hunts are on private property, not normally open to the general public for geode hunting at any other time.
We will have portable restroom facilities available at the registration area, but not the collecting areas.
The guided hunts leave from the Chaney Creek Access Area parking lot just north of Hamilton at 8:am and return at 12:noon and leave again at 1:pm and return at 5:pm each day. There will be daily prizes awarded for the "Prettiest", "Most Unusual", "Largest", "Smallest", "Oddest", "Rarest", "Ugliest" and a couple other categories. The prizes will be given away at 5:30:pm each day at the Chaney Creek Access Area. We will have a separate 12 and under division, so the kids aren’t competing with the adults for the awards.
Please meet at the Chaney Creek Access Area parking lot
one hour prior to departure time to check in, find our group leader and leave at the appointed times. You will be responsible for your own transportation to and from the collecting sites, your own 5-gallon buckets, proper clothing, collecting tools, water, sunscreen, bug spray, etc. Tour guides will lead you to the sites and be available during the hunts. There are NO facilities on the hunting sites. The hunts will be held as scheduled, rain or shine. An additional fee of $20.00 / 5-gallon bucket of geodes kept will be assessed. The St. Francisville site fees are a flat rate of $.55/pound for anything you decide to keep.
We’re looking forward to having you to Hamilton for this exciting event ! ! !
